JESSICA CALDAS - "FALLING IN..."

March 30 - May 4th

Beep Beep Gallery is proud to present "Falling In..." a solo exhibition of new work by Atlanta based artist Jessica Caldas. An accomplished print maker, Jessica adds additional media to her prints creating layers that add a certain unique and personal subtlety to her work. This new series continues her exploration of relationships, specifically the connection between love and violence in domesticity.

ABOUT THE SHOW

"Just as any love story does, the stories of violent relationships each develop differently. Though a relationship full of love should not be violent there is indeed love. There is a very human hope and belief in love. There are lines of power, control and anger that should not be crossed but they are crossed. Violence should not be hard to see, hard to distinguish, hard to name and yet it is.

When we see violence from an outsider’s perspective and we want to understand it we place ourselves, or those we know, in the moment and we ask “What if it was me?” Why do we have to ask this question? When we don’t want to understand violence we push the stories away from us, and we say “that could never happen to me”. In this moment we are failing to understand that, like love, violence is all around us.

This work visualizes relationships I witness as a Domestic Violence advocate; their development through the cycle of violence, the perspectives surrounding the relationships, and the questions of what happens when love is pressured by violence and control."

Upcoming Shows: JANUARY
JANUARY 5TH - FEBRUARY 9TH

ARTISTS: Sean Abrahams, Kelly Cloninger, Lucha Rodriguez, Allen Taylor, Paco Vergachette

"Day Glow Night Mare" is a a neo-psychedelic group show that assaults the senses.  With a color palate that can be simultaneously beautiful, obnoxious, and nostalgic, the show features new works by 5 local artists who incorporate and ecstatic vibrancy into their work.

We've been throwing out the idea of this show for quite some time for a number of reasons, the primary one being the strength of these particular artist's work.  Each has abused this gradient of colors in their own way mixing design, organics, doodling, kaleidoscoping, and contrast.  With those colors as their unifier, Day Glow Night Mare showcases a wide range of ideas and styles from these 5 extremely talented artists.

Please join us this Saturday, January 5th, from 7-10pm for the opening reception.
